Workshops During Yoga TTC in Rishikesh Special sessions that bring the essence of yoga to life—beyond the mat, into mind, body, and spirit.
Iyengar Yoga at Rishikul Yogshala Rishikesh
Iyengar Yoga

Iyengar Yoga is named after the late BKS Iyengar, who is credited with bringing yoga to all age groups with the support of Props.

This form of Yoga appeals to all abilities, age groups and body types as the poses can be modified to suit your body using props such as bricks, belts and blankets.

This type of Yoga aligns the physical body in line with the mental body, the mental body with the intellectual body, and the intellectual body with the spiritual body, so they are balanced.

As per the B.K.S Iyengar - Each asana has an optimum line or position. From the head to the foot, from the front to the back, from the right to the left—without deviation, without distortion.

Kundalini Yoga

The word “Kundalini” generally refers to that dimension of energy that is yet to realize its potential. There is a huge volume of energy within us that is yet to find its potential. In today's world - What we lack is a Constant Heightened State of Awareness.

Heightened states of energy are also heightened states of perception. The whole yogic system is aimed only towards enhancing your perception, which is the path of Kundalini Yoga.

Being an advanced practice which is only to be initiated upon mastering One's Body, Energy and Emotions, this workshop would be an Introductory session in intellectually understanding the concept of Kundalini and break several myths and illusory approaches to Kundalini.

Kundalini Yoga at Rishikul Yogshala Rishikesh
Sound Healing at Rishikul Yogshala Rishikesh
Sound Healing

Sound healing is the method of using specific instruments, music, tones or tunes and other vibrations to bring in calmness within your nervous system, thus aiding in the balance of the body and mind.

It involves using specialised sound frequencies to create a therapeutic atmosphere to promote deep rest, nervous system rebalancing, and emotional release.

The Sound healing methods are borrowed from Yogic Meditative practices. In the Yogic Meditative practices, certain techniques are used to bring in a balance within our body and mind. Sound healing uses the same method through sound-generating tools, which can bring about a meditative or theta brainwave state, allowing access to deeper levels of calmness.

Yoga Therapy

The word Therapy is intended to relieve or heal a disorder. Yoga Means - Union

So the Concept of Yoga Therapy is to bring about a balance within the mind and body by using various Yogic tools such as Asana, Pranayama and Meditative practices.

The concept of Yoga therapy aligns the unique and precise health needs with yogic practices coupled with medical science guidelines for curative effects.

Yoga Therapy is a holistic approach to healing and wellness - Integrating Principles of Yoga along with Therapeutic Techniques.

Yoga Therapy at Rishikul Yogshala Rishikesh
Yoga Teaching Practicum at Rishikul Yogshala Rishikesh
Teaching Practicum

Teaching yoga is both a Science and an Art. Usually, it is said that a good practitioner can be a good teacher.

This groundbreaking workshop offers both tools:

1. The logical ones, such as understanding the sequencing of the rhythm of a class.

2. Subtle, intangible skills required to become a proficient yoga teacher, along with the above, you would also be taught how to adapt to different class sizes, group sizes and age variations.

This session will help aspiring self-practitioners to teach themselves or will assist teachers in working with students in a real school and educational setting.

Restorative Yoga

Restorative yoga is a Yogic practice which involves minimal stress on muscles and tension. It is all about slowing down and opening your body through passive stretching.

Restorative yoga is suitable for practitioners of all levels. The concept of Restorative Yoga borrows the central theme of how an Asana has to be practised in its true sense - Holding the poses (asana) for a longer duration with or without using props like yoga blocks, blankets, and bolsters.

It is a practice of deep relaxation that emphasises the Meditative aspect of Yoga.

The History of Yoga in Rishikesh, India

When practising yoga, many people think of a landscape, breathwork, meditative states, and a path that leads to inner peace. However, to understand the origins of yoga, we must look beyond modern trends and travel to the roots of the practice - Rishikesh, India, at the base of the Himalayas. Rishikesh has been the magnetic centre for sages, mystics and spiritual seekers around the world.

Rishikesh came from its name ''Hrishikesha'' meaning lord of senses, which is associated with lord vishnu. This name summarises the essence of yoga. Unlike other overcrowded cities, Rishikesh is surrounded by a natural environment for self-purification.

Historical Roots of Yoga in Rishikesh

Rishikesh's origin is rooted in India's ancient spiritual legacy, dating back to the Vedic period, approximately 5,000 years ago.

Rishikesh places are blessed by the flow of the Ganga, and have long been used as a natural sanctuary for tapasya, dhyana, and moksha. Rishikesh is not only famous for its place in myths and legends, but it is also revered in the Vedas and Puranas, as well as in the Bhagavad Gita and Hatha yoga, where it is described as a land chosen by gods and sages for spiritual growth.

Today, in Rishikesh, yoga has a vast history as ancient as the Himalayas themselves. The town holds a place in the Vedic scriptures, the Upanishads, and the Puranic texts, where it is described as a tirtha, a known crossing point. Philosophers like Rishi Vashistha, Rishibharawarja and Lakshaman used to come here[Rishikesh] for meditation. This spiritual legacy has been passed down through the foundation of Rishikesh's enduring connection to yoga.

Rishikesh is truly unique because its spiritual energy has remained alive. When the empires rose and fell, Rishikesh continued to vibrate quietly in the background, untouched yet fully awake.

Ancient Toots and Spiritual Legacy
Rise of ashrams and global recognition
Rise of ashrams and global recognition

Although the seed of yoga in Rishikesh was sown early, its evolution into a field began during the early 20th century. As in the early 1900s, Rishikesh was the only town where sadhus and saints sought isolation in the Himalayas. However, as India moved into the post-colonial era, there was a constant renewal of spiritual practices. In this way, some idealists, including spiritual leaders, began to establish ashrams in Rishikesh.

Many ashrams were established in Rishikesh. Still, the most influential include the Sivananda Ashram (part of The Divine Life Society), founded in 1936, as well as Parmarth Niketan and Yoga Niketan. These ashrams included yoga courses, attracting not only indians but also foreigners.

In early 1960, it was marked as a turning point and gained global recognition for its ancient wisdom. According to reports, in 1968, the Beatles undertook a course of meditation to attain peace, and during this time, they also wrote many songs.

Modern Rishikesh: a Global hub for yogis

Today, Rishikesh is not only a blessed town, but it's also the centre of global yoga culture. Every year, thousands of students travel here to complete their yoga teacher training courses, spiritual workshops, and wellness programs. From traditional hatha yoga and Ashtanga Yoga to modern yoga practices like Vinyasa Flow, Kundalini Flow, Rishikesh is the place that offers it all. These are all types of offerings that allow students from diverse backgrounds to explore yoga.

Almost all the festivals related to yoga are organised by Guru Parmarth Niketan, which is an example of how Rishikesh grasps the global identity. Guests from around the world come to experience yoga, spiritual music, and Vedic rituals. Famous teachers and gurus conduct yoga sessions, which are a mix of postures, lectures, kirtans, as well as ayurvedic healing.
